Sukhwinder was admitted to the emergency ward in a state of hepatic encephalopathy, unable to recognise his family. He had a known history of alcohol-related liver disease but had not sought treatment. His MELD score on admission was 28, placing him in a high-urgency transplant category.
The LiverGuru team acted quickly. Within 72 hours of admission, Sukhwinder was stabilised and listed for a deceased donor transplant. A suitable organ became available within three weeks. The transplant was performed successfully by Dr. Gursagar Singh Sahota.
Sukhwinder's recovery was remarkable. He regained full cognitive function within six weeks of the transplant. He remains entirely abstinent from alcohol and is a vocal advocate for liver health awareness in his community. He returned to his work as a school teacher eight months after the surgery.
"The team at LiverGuru did not just save my liver. They gave me back the ability to be a father, a husband, and a teacher. I will spend the rest of my life being grateful."
